Copernicus came up with the theory of the heliocentric universe and famous astronomers like Galileo Galilei subscribed to it or proved it and that's why they were persecuted.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6511643278236918299.post-57687115010377332332014-10-22T13:30:36.422-07:002014-10-22T13:30:36.422-07:00well, an example of that would be the myth in whic...well, an example of that would be the myth in which the earth is the center of the universe, and the sun and the moon orbit it. this was believed for centuries to be true, until one man, Giordano Bruno, begged to differ. his opposition was that the sun was in fact the center, and that the earth along with the moon orbited the sun (he was right!). the catholic church protested that Bruno was going against the bible, and were afraid that his being right would cause distrust between the church and their people.
